Accident with rollover on I83

Tony Myers    August 18, 2020    No Comments

At 5:38pm Shrewsbury Volunteers along with Loganville FD and EMS from GlenRock were dispatched for a reported multi vehicle accident with rollover on I83 southbound south of Exit 8.  Rescue Squad 61, Engine 61-2 and Utility 61 responded.

Enroute to the call 911 dispatchers updated the location to milemarker 5 southbound.  Rescue Squad 61 arrived and found two vehicles involved.  Debris was tossed across the highway from one vehicle rolling over.  Personnel found all occupants out of the cars.  All advised they were ok and did not want to go to the hospital.

Personnel from Shrewsbury and Loganville FD’s worked with Pa State Police in clearing the roadway.  Tow trucks from Smith Brothers arrived and removed the vehicles.  Utility 61 and 63 maintained traffic control throughout the incident.

THIS is a danger all emergency service providers as well as towing agencies face everytime we are on the roadway. The crew of this unit had just moved away from the vehicle when the impact occurred.

Last night, Shrewsbury Volunteers were on I83 for a motorcycle accident. While fighting the fire and with traffic cones in place a secondary accident t occurred right next to us. Three vehicles were involved.

Distracted driving is one of the most common causes of accidents. When approaching accident scenes SLOW DOWN, PAY ATTENTION, KEEP MOVING. We want to return home alive.

Shrewsbury Volunteers, one of the first in Pennsylvania, placed the HAAS traffic warning system on our engines and heavy rescue squad to alert motorists of emergency incidents on the Waze traffic apps. Google Maps is currently working on adding this feature. The HAAS app displays our apparatus on roadways to alert you.

Safety is number 1. Our personnel thank you for keeping us safe by paying attention while driving
