Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company provides EMS to over 9,000 citizens living within Shrewsbury Borough, Shrewsbury Township, and Railroad Borough. The fire company does not provide EMS in the traditional manner; we use a Quick Response Service (QRS). The object of a QRS is to provide quick service to the citizens in the need of care for life threatening injury or illness. Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company currently has 12 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) that respond on units of fire apparatus to provide care until an ambulance arrives. The Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company works alongside neighboring ambulances from New Freedom, Stewartstown, Glen Rock, Jacobus, and Baltimore & Carroll Counties in MD to get our citizens to the hospitals. Advanced Medical care is also provided by paramedics from York and Memorial Hospitals. Air Medical care is by Maryland State Police, and Stat MedEvac provided the patient needs to be flown to a hospital. All of these agencies work with the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company to provide top notch care to the citizens in Southern York County.
