This morning at 06:14, the Shrewsbury Volunteers were dispatched to assist Loganville with a vehicle accident on I-83 (Northbound Exit 8 off-ramp). While reporting to https://phillipslawoffices.com/car-accidents/, we were advised that the accident involved a tractor trailer that is leaking liquid oxygen.
Upon arrival, 61 personnel tended to the driver until the Ambulance could get to him. He was transported to York with minor injuries.
Additional units were requested by Command 63 due to the nature of the spill and ongoing leak. Interstate 83 was shut down from Loganville to Shrewsbury. This was done in accordance with the Emergency Response Guidebook which guides First Responders in Hazardous Materials incidents. The travel lanes (both North and South) were with-in the evacuation zone.
Units from around the area, York, and Lancaster Haz-mat teams remained on scene while the product was off-loaded onto a safe vehicle.
The Shrewsbury Volunteers would like to thank The American Red Cross and The Shrewsbury Chic-Fil-A for the food that was provided. Thanks as well to R.A. Bair and Son for feeding Squadzilla, who was getting thirsty as well.
Rescue 61 returned to station at approximately 6:30 PM, more than 12 hours after the initial call.
