At 05:15 this morning Shrewsbury Volunteers were dispatched to assist York Township with a large truck overturned with the driver trapped on Interstate 83 just south of Leader Heights exit. Rescue 61 responded and on arrival met with crews who were already engaged in extrication operations.
After discussion and size up Shrewsbury personnel began working their way in from the passenger side of the overturned truck. Along with York Area United Fire Rescue members debris was removed and parts of the truck were cut and disassembled to gain access to the trapped driver. Rescue 19 members continued operation from the driver side.
Access was gained to the patient and after a few minutes the driver was freed from the wreckage. The patient was removed from the vehicle and treated by York Regional Emergency Medical Services paramedics. The patient was taken to York Hospital Trauma Center.
Rescue 61 cleared the incident at 06:35 and returned to quarters.
