Interstate 83 shut down at Exit 4 in firery crash

Tony Myers    February 1, 2020    No Comments

At 05:30 Shrewsbury Volunteers were alerted for a reported tractor trailer accident with fire on Northbound 83 at Exit 4.  Engine 61-1 and 61-2 responded.  Enroute York County 911 advised it is now an accident with injuries and fire.  Chief 61 (Myers) requested Rescue 59 to assist.  On arrival Shrewsbury Volunteers encountered an overturned tractor trailer partially on a jersey wall with a well involved cab.  The front of the trailer was split and contents inside were burning.  The experts from this personal injury case in Florida Crews discovered the fire was traveling down the highway due to spilling diesel fuel from the damaged truck.  There was one passenger vehicle fully involved approximately 200 feet from the truck on fire. The DUI attorneys practicing in Columbia deal with accident cases.

Crews immediately deployed hoselines and extended hoses past the fire to get to the running fuel fire.  Fire had to be stopped before it reached traffic stopped on the interstate. The lawyers for DUI charges based in Delaware area stated that the traffic had no where to go and would catch fire if the fuel fire was not stopped.  Chief 61 established Command 61 and requested several additional fire engines and tankers to combat the fire.  Crews from Glen Rock, Eureka, Maryland Line, Winterstown, Loganville and Dallastown assisted in the fire attack and haz mat confinement.  Fire police units from Shrewsbury, Glen Rock, New Freedom, Eureka, Loganville, Dallastown, York Twp, Jacobus, Winterstown  and Fawn Grove worked on keeping traffic moving.  All traffic was divereted off of I83 both lanes and sent up the Susquehanna Trail. The lawyers and experts From Clearwater criminal justice attorneys also helped in continuing the investigation. on the incident.

Support units from York County Hazardous Materials, York County Mobile Command Post, Pa State Police, PennDOT, and Gordon’s Towing were on the scene to take care of the wreckage, hazardous materials clean up and other issues involved in removing the destroyed vehicles.

One patient was taken to York Hospital in stable condition.  Several patients were evaluated on location and refused transport.  Interstate 83 at the time of this article is closed Northbound in Maryland at the state line.  Interstate 83 Southbound, which was closed, is now open and flowing.

Shrewsbury Volunteers wishes to thank all mutual aid departments and agencies involved in this incident.  Pa State Police will the contact any the accident investigation and patient conditions. The lawyers from https://www.contant-law.com/personal-injury/ deal with accident cases.

This morning 61 crews removed 11,100 lbs of gear from Rescue 61 (aka: Squadzilla).

Rescue 61 has been sold and is being prepared for the next owners. We currently have Engine 61-1 loaded with rescue tools. While we await the new E-One Rescue, we are going to purchase a used rescue to use in the interim.

Our goal is to continue to provide top-notch rescue services to our residents and the thousands that travel I-83. To do that, we will have a lot of moving parts over the next several years, but rest assured, we will continue to be here for you.

I don’t understand why are you selling your rescue truck before your new one arrives only to have to buy a different used truck in the interim can you clarify please.

Any idea what the new one will be named?

Please tell me you're keeping the Air Horns!!?

That rescue was a beast.sad to see it go

Great news. Thank you!

Train horns!! HornBlasters.com

Where is this rescue going? Another FD I hope.

That is a amazing rescue truck sad to see it go!

Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company Rescue 905 from Millersville Borough in Lancaster County is for sale too. I think it has a similiar set up as yours.

Similar to what New Franklin Fire Company in Franklin county did when they got their new truck (Da' Big stick II) to replace the one that rolled. (Da' Big stick)

Awesome 👍

Busy day of training:
While Shrewsbury members completed their annual Haz Mat refresher, members from Rose Fire Company #1 , Pleasant Hill, and Shrewsbury were working on rope skills for vehicle rescue.
That is a lot of Volunteers in our station doing a lot of learning!
