At 9:42pm on October 25th Shrewsbury Volunteers were dispatched to Interstate 83 SB just south of Exit 36 for a multi-vehicle accident with entrapment. Rescue Squad 61 responded and enroute was advised at least three vehicles involved, people trapped, with one vehicle down an embankment. Rescue Squad 61 arrived and after speaking with command personnel was placed in service. There were multiple fatalities including two trapped people. Maryland State Police reconstruction team is enroute as well as the Medical Examiner team. Rescue Squad 61 returned and Baltimore County units from Parkton and Maryland Line remained.
At 02:03am on October 26th Shrewsbury was once again alerted to respond with Rescue Squad 61 to assist with the removal of the expired patients who were still trapped in the vehicles. Police reconstruction teams have completed their work and the victims can now be removed for the Medical Examiner team to finish their portion of the investigation. Rescue Squad 61 arrived and teamed up with Baltimore County Tower 17. Together a victim was extricated from the wreckage once it was hoisted onto the roadway by a heavy wrecker. Once the victim was removed crews continued to remove wreckage to obtain the onboard computer brain which the police reconstruction team will use to download vital information about speed and devices in use.
Rescue Squad 61 returned to Shrewsbury at approximately 03:45.
