At 10:18pm Shrewsbury Volunteers along with a first alarm assignment were dispatched to New Freedom Borough for a reported home with smoke inside. Engine 61-2 and Rescue 61 were dispatched and responded. Enroute equipment from Rose Fire Co (Station 58 New Freedom) arrived and advised they had smoke showing. Engine 61-2 was second engine arriving and was instructed to assist Station 58 crews advancing an attack line. Engine 61-2’s crew pulled a second attack line and went to the rear of the building. Smoke was discovered pushing from vents on the rear of the structure and Command 58 was advised. Shrewsbury crews advanced a hoseline into the fire building from the rear door. Crews, once debris was removed from the hallway, made contact with Station 58 personnel who made entry from the front. Station 58 personnel were able to extinguish the fire and all crews checked for fire extension. Fire was confined to the first floor with some smoke making it’s way to the second floor of an adjoining residence.
Crews from New Freedom, Shrewsbury and Glen Rock ventilated the buildings and confirmed no fire extended from the area of origin. All crews, once this was completed assisted in putting all attack lines and equipment back on the fire apparatus. Units were placed in service as they were ready. Station 58 units remained on the scene to finish their fire investigation. Engine 61-2 and Rescue 61 returned to quarters.
Thank you to Goodwill Fire Co. of York Township for transferring Rescue 19 and standing by at Station 61 until or return.
