At 5:01 pm Shrewsbury Volunteers were dispatched to a reported mulit-vehicle accident with entrapment on Interstate 83 in Baltimore County Maryland. Rescue Squad 61 and Engine 61-1 responded to assist. Tower 58 and MICU 58 from Rose Fire Co. also responded. Enroute all units were advised there were two people trapped. Additionally, a separate incident was dispatched just south of this one for a vehicle fire.
Rescue Squad 61 arrived and immediately engaged in extrication work along with crews from Rescue Engine 442 (Hereford Md). Two patients were trapped in one vehicle and in serious condition. Personnel work together to remove doors and the roof to free the patients and deliver them to waiting EMS units. Once patients were removed the area was cleared of debris and apparatus were able to leave once all equipment was returned. Good job to all units on location.
This is the second major incident for Shrewsbury Volunteers. Crews had just completed an extensive cleanup of equipment from an earlier fiery crash on I83 in Pennsylvania which started at 05:30am. Just another day on I83………..
