Rain has been falling since the weekend and will continue until Thursday. The region has received almost a foot of rain so far. We know Shrewsbury has received at least 6 inches of water and more is to come. The National Weather Service has been keeping everyone updated on alerts regarding flooding watches/warnings as well as Flash Flood warnings/warnings. York County fire, rescue, EMS and police departments are running non-stop between incidents. York County has mulitple roadways closed due to rising water and trees/wires down. PLEASE OBEY WARNING SIGNS posted on roads. If you come across a barricade, sign or warning cones blocking roadwasys DO NOT drive past them and continue down the road. You could become trapped in rising waters or make contact live wires or downed trees. It is illegal to disregard a barrier shutting down a roadway. Emergency personnel needlessly have to make rescues when you disobey posted road closures. If you become stranded and survive the incident you can be fined.
How do you know what is under this flooded roadway? You could be driving onto a roadyway that is undermined like this.
You would become the next water rescue. Keep informed on current and anticipated weather as well as check with local news agencies regarding roads that are closed. Drive to stay alive.
