At 02:49 Shrewsbury Volunteers along with a first alarm assignment was dispatched for mutual aid to Sweitzer Road in Hopewell Township for a reported structure fire. Engine 61-1 responded with 3 members. Enroute Chief 54 (Eureka Volunteer Fire Co. / Chief Walker) was advised by York 911 police on location advise it is a working fire. Chief 54 advised he is a half mile away and has fire visible. Engine 61-1 and Chief 54 arrived to find heavy fire showing from an attached garage. Fire is showing in the loft area of the garage and venting on several sides. Chief Walker established Command 54 and Engine 61-1 stretched an attack line and began fire extinguishment. Additional units from Eureka Volunteer Fire Company, Rose Fire Company, North Hopewell/Winterstown and Glen Rock fire companies arrived and assisted in fire attack. A second attack line was pulled from Engine 61-1 and personnel working were able to hold the fire in the garage. There was no extension to the home and no injuries.
Eureka Volunteer Fire Co. lead the investigation and after all overhaul was completed all personnel assisted each other picking up hoselines and tools. Sweitzer Road was closed until approximately 05:30 hours.
